Intelligence for electromagnetic spectrum dominance
Signals intelligence activity involves the detection, analysis and identification of signals within the electromagnetic spectrum. It integrates ELINT functions (radar signal intelligence) and COMINT functions (communications signal intelligence). Signals intelligence systems combine different sensors under a single C2 (Command and Control) and provide the means required for analysing all emissions.
These systems enable armed forces to obtain strategic-level intelligence information and subsequently face engagements (tactical level) with electromagnetic spectrum dominance.
Given the critical nature of the mission, the system must incorporate shielding against interference, anti-jamming measures and be capable of operating in hostile environments.
Manned SIGINT electronic warfare aircraft are essential platforms for modern defence.
Onboard specialised sensors allow monitoring and observing the electromagnetic spectrum to obtain, through their mission system, information on the capabilities, intentions and activities of potential adversaries.
